Description
About a year before taking this shot I had an opportunity to try and photograph a blue heron on a Golf Course. It was so cautious of me that it would fly away every time I started to get close enough to shoot it. Then it would come back and I would try again without success. I thought I would never get the chance to get a good close up of one. Then this year I saw this one but had left my zoom lens in the car. I very pessimistically made the walk back to the car some 100 yards or more away figuring someone else in this well traveled place would scare it away before I got back or if even by chance it was still there, I would scare it away upon returning. As it turned out I shot him for over five minutes before trying to shoo him away for an action shot. Wouldn't you know the action shot was what He would accommodate! About as I got in my car to pull away he took off... little *&!#$*

Blue herons are either skittish or they couldn't care less and you never know which one you are going to find. I love the deep water in this image, along with the leaves and the reflections, very unique.
