Description
Vernazza is a small town in the Cinque Terre of Italy and situated on the Ligurian Sea coastline. The other towns that make up the Cinque Terre include Riomaggiore, Corniglia, Manarola, and Monterosso Al Mare.
For this picture I had to climb out onto a ledge and then to a roof of a small shed and balance between the shed and the natural landscape ledge to take the shot. If I had not done so the foreground would have been the vegitation and the middle ground of the bay would have been lost altogether because the foreground would have blocked it out. The extra height made all the difference in the world. Hope you like the image and please check out my entire gallery including my Italy collection in specific!!!
For a more detailed description this scenic view is both easy and difficult to get to. The trail will take you straight there but the climbing is quite steep with a continuous uphill grade. Vernazza is a fabulous vacation destination and tourist MUST! It is laid back and peaceful but still in ways very hustle and bustle. The laid back comes from no cars entering the town but the hustle comes from so many foot travelers hiking the Cinque Terre trails and stopping for a short visit!
The trails give great views of the Ligurian sea as well as each of the five cities they lead to. These trails are said to have more individual stones ( albeit much smaller stones ) than the ones used in the building of the great wall of China.
In my opinion Vernazza and also Manarola are absolute musts for an Italy vacation and each possibly rival Rome or even Venice as your favorite stopping point. Each are definitely a preference to lay down permanent roots over that of the aforementioned Rome or Venice!!!
If you've been to the Cinque Terre you know ( cinque meaning 5, Terre meaning lands. { All of which are in reference to five coastline towns, namely Rio Maggiore, Corniglia, Manarola, Vernazza, and Monterosso Al Mare... all of which bare a striking resemblance to the Amalfi coast and are near La Spezia but are much less populated which will be a welcome break from the rest of Italy for tourists not use to highly populated areas I am sure!!! } ) that the gift shops are full of calendars and the cover images are 65% Vernazza and 35% Manarola.
If you like this shot please check out my entire Italy gallery for a wide variety of day, night, color and black and white images that include Vernazza, Manarola as well as Rome, Venice, Florence and Tuscany!
