Description
Italy is known for Venice, Rome, Florence, Sicily, Tuscany and its landscapes as well as the Amalfi Coast. Also known for wine, olive oil and pasta, but much lesser known for Vernazza, Manarola, Monterosso, Corniglia and Riomaggiore, the five towns that make up the Cinque Terre which is situated on the Ligurian sea. These five towns are truly a site to see, built into the steep slopes and rocky coastline of the Ligurian sea. They are connected by a trail made up of more stones than make up the great wall of China! The cities are made of stone and have only foot traffic with no cars being let into the city. Italia, Venezia and Roma are just a few of the words as pronounced by native Italians. The old world or old country is how Italy is commonly referred to by many americans who have ancestors from Italy.
Having been there I can truly say it is well worth visiting on a vacation with many overall tourist attractions and beautiful scenery. Including of course the Colosseum, Trevi fountain, Vatican City, The Pantheon, and the canals of Venice along with Rialto Bridge. The vineyards of Tuscany and museums of Florence along with the Ponte Vecchio to name just a few.
